Suicide is the second-leading cause of death for women in postpartum period. Psychiatric disorders are common pregnancy, affecting 15-29% pregnant women, whereas clinical depression affects 10%-15% them. Women during pregnancy and period particularly vulnerable to suicidal ideation. The prevalence ideation ranges from 5% 14% worldwide, while rate suicide lies between two three per 100,000 countries like UK USA. main risk factor perinatal depression. Other mental illnesses, schizophrenia, anxiety, bipolar adjustment disorder, consist factors too. Some high-risk social characteristics thoughts younger age, unpartnered status well-being with their marriage, high parity, non-Caucasian race, no health insurance, poor support, unplanned low-income origin country, unemployment, low educational level smoking. Obstetrics complications severe vaginal laceration, weight infants admission neonatal intensive care unit, fetal mortality prior abortions factors. Physical, psychological or sexual intimate partner violence, trauma history physical abuse army, childhood, all contribute thought. Knowledge psychiatric time enrolment maternity units, better identification problems via psychometric screening tools, as well use proper referral medication, should be routine services.
